I built a modern academic publishing system for Carleton University that enabled them to launch a high-quality open-access journal.
During my employment with Carleton University I helped them introduce a new open-access journal called the TIM Review. One unique challenge of building an academic publishing system is that many users will expect your system to integrate with external services built around curating academic publications.
The TIM Review system integrates with dozens of external services, including Google Scholar and the Zotero citation manager.
Other challenges included automatically migrating hundreds of articles from an older academic publishing system, managing the TIM Review's large mailing list, and building a robust all-Canadian infrastructure.
